Several years ago a series of outstanding computer-drawn images were posted to on line services by Joe Bergeron. Joe, as it turns out, was an amateur astronomer and talented painter who had recently decided to try producing art (mostly astronomical and science fiction art) on his computer, a Macintosh IIsi. Since then Joe has found fame and at least enough fortune to move up to a Power Macintosh 8500/120. You can see a selection of his work on his web site.
Joe gave us permission to post this image of HAL's "eye" (inspired by the film 2001: A Space Odyssey) in commemoration of HAL's birthday on January 12, 1997, in Urbana, Illinois. For those who wish to quibble about the date, the Arthur C. Clarke story, not the film, is considered to be the authoritative source.
